William J. Sheafer

Esther & Bill Sheafer

William J. Sheafer, 74, husband of Esther Sheafer, of Cardinal Way in Fleetwood, formerly of Gilbertsville, died Tuesday in Suncoast Hospital, Largo, Florida.

Born April 16, 1929, in St. Clair, he was a son of the late Walter and Eva (Irvin) Sheafer.

He lived in Gilbertsville for 30 years.

Mr. Sheafer worked as a corrections officer at the Graterford State Correctional Facility for 30 years, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard.

Mr. Sheafer was a member of St. Columbkill's Roman Catholic Church in Boyertown, Gilbertsville Fire Company No. 1, the Senior Fellowship of Limerick, and the Mont-Berks CB Club in Gilbertsville.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by a son, William J. Sheafer of Bernville, Berks County; three daughters, Donna Harp of Gilbertsville, Karen Leszkowicz of Watertown, Conn., and Margaret Pender of Mohnton, Berks County; and eight grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert; and two sisters, Edna Lauck and Ruth Allen.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m.  Jan. 23 in St. Columbkill's Roman Catholic Church, 200 Indian Spring Road, Boyertown, PA 19512, with the Rev. Robert C. Quinn officiating. A viewing will be held from 9 to 10 a.m.  Friday in the church.

Contributions may be made to St. Columbkill's Building Fund. Arrangements are by the Catagnus Funeral Home of Boyertown.
